High school wrestling roundup: Panthers edge Gardendale in match

The Pelham High School wrestling team edged host Gardendale 37-36 in a meet Dec. 14.

Seven Panthers earned individual victories in the match.

Alex Warren of Pelham earned an 8-6 decision over Gardendale’s Scotty Clements in the 112-pound match. The Panthers’ Logan Huey pinned Nick Kolb of Gardendale in 24 seconds in the 125-pound match.

Pelham’s Zach Freeze earned a 4-0 decision over Bradley Bowen of Gardendale in the 135-pound match. Cody Wehunt of Pelham pinned Jeremy Clemons of Gardendale in 2:45 in the 140-pound match.

The Panthers’ Nolan Vinson pinned Gardendale’s Trent England in 3:27 in the 160-pound match. Pelham heavyweight Tyler Ray pinned Daniel Adkins of Gardendale in 2:47.

Pelham 215-pounder John Brito-Cuevas won by forfeit.

Pelham also fell to Mortimer Jordan 65-10 in the dual meet. Two Pelham wrestlers won their individual matches against Mortimer Jordan.

Freeze picked up a 12-0 major decision over Jacob Howse of Mortimer Jordan in the 135-pound match. Ray pinned Mortimer Jordan’s Micah Lucas in the heavyweight match.

Shelby County drops two matches

The Shelby County High School wrestling team dropped matches against Hueytown and Chilton County in a dual meet Dec. 14.

The Wildcats fell 37-36 in a match against Chilton County.

Six Shelby County wrestlers won their individual matches against Chilton County by forfeit, including Noah Dorough, Jonathon Perrine, Nathan Herrington, Chase Weeks, Justin Abbott and Luke Miller.

Shelby County fell 60-24 in a match against Hueytown. Four Wildcats won their individual matches against Hueytown.

Perrine pinned Jorge Martizez of Hueytown in the 135-pound match. Herrington pinned Hueytown’s David Perry in the 140-pound match.

Weeks pinned Jacob Squires of Hueytown in 152-pound action. Shelby County’s Keaton Wood won his 160-pound match by forfeit.

Calera drops match against Brookwood

The Calera High School wrestling squad dropped a match against Brookwood on Dec. 14.

Five Eagles won their individual matches against Brookwood.

Brian McDonald of Calera earned an 8-1 decision over Tyler Hollingsworth of Brookwood in the 103-pound match. The Eagles’ Christian McDonald pinned Patrick Richardson of Brookwood in 5:43 in the 112-pound match.

Calera’s Jarrett Seiger pinned Spencer Hess of Brookwood in 33 seconds in the 119-pound match. Calera 152-pounder Coby Mize pinned Brookwood’s Joel Kladifko in 1:30.

Calera 125-pounder Austin Dowdy won by forfeit.
