Oak Mountain defeats Cordova

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team started its season with turnovers, jitters and bad decisions before eventually cleaning up play in defeating Pinson Valley in its season opener.

The following night, the Eagles were flying early and outscoring Cordova by 20 points in the first quarter en route to a commanding 55-12 win Nov. 9 over the Blue Devils.

As in game one, when six players scored at least seven points, the Eagles had five players with at least six points in the win over Cordova.

Senior post player Julia Ferguson led the way with 12 points and 7 rebounds, while senior guard Hannah Griffin had another all-around performance with nine points, four assists and five steals.

Junior guard Mackenzie Garmany contributed seven points and seven assists in the win.

Oak Mountain improved to 2-0 on the season with the win.  The Eagles will face undefeated Shelby County in the final night of the Tipoff at the Mountain round-robin event Nov. 10.
