“Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” –Deuteronomy 15:10

I love Christmas! The sights and sounds, the magic and love, and especially the reason we celebrate. What a joyful time of year. Each of us can name numerous people and situations where prayers are needed and desired — prayers for healing and peace and comfort and prayers of thanksgiving too. We go through each day of our lives and often don’t think about the many blessings that we have. At the Greater Shelby Chamber, we too are blessed — blessed that we live in Shelby County and enjoy such a fabulous community with so much available — including agencies to help our neighbors in need.

Christmas is a time of giving. Prayers are always needed, and so are contributions. I encourage you to become joyful about giving, even when times are tough for you personally. Our attitude behind giving makes a difference. Instead of feeling guilty or obligated to buy stuff, intentionally and joyfully give something to another person, even a stranger (or animals) in need.

There are numerous community service organizations that continue to help make Shelby County a great place to live and work. More than 50 are associated with the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Check out the complete listing in our business directory online at Shelbychamber.org. Visit with them, ask what is needed, and give where you can. You can make a difference when you give joyfully (and all year long!).

Be a blessing to those in need this Christmas and give with a joyful heart. You will be blessed in return beyond measure.
