Evangel Christian tops East Central

The Evangel Christian School girls’ basketball team closed out its regular season Feb. 6 with its 14th straight win, knocking off Alabama Christian Sports Conference opponent East Central of Moody 51-25.

With the win, the Lightning improved to 15-1 on the season, including a perfect 12-0 record in conference play.

Lacey Entrekin scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the way for Evangel Christian.

Bethany Letson scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers.  Rainey Ketcham added seven points, four assists and six steals.

Whitney Thorpe had six points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Lightning.

Top-seeded Evangel Christian will get a first-round bye in the ACSC tournament next week at Samford University before playing in their first tournament game Feb. 17.

BOYS

The Evangel Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated East Central 70-29 in high school basketball action Feb. 6.

DaJon Townson led the Lightning (20-0) with a game-high 19 points in the victory.

Aaron Walker and Adam Gurley chipped in 14 points. Ben Smith chipped in eight points in the win.

Jonathan Parker contributed six points. Judson Motes finished with five points. Andrew Smedley and Josh Letson added two points each.
