Tyler Williams added 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and five steals in the win. Anterio Rogers chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds and a team-high six assists.

Jamal McCrimon contributed six points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Marquis Torbert finished with four points and two boards. Demauntey Johnson added one point, two rebounds and two assists.

The Yellow Jackets’ semifinal victory didn’t follow the same path of Vincent’s 68-61 semifinal region win a year ago against Section.

Following a quick 5-2 run by North Sand Mountain, the Yellow Jackets responded with a 11-0 run, which included nine points by Moon, to take a 13-5 lead with 2:37 remaining in the first quarter.

Vincent pushed its lead to double digits for the first time with 5:31 left in the first half when Rogers drained a 3-pointer, which gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-9 lead. A layup by Moon with 23 seconds left in the second quarter sent Vincent into the locker room at halftime with a 33-15 advantage.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 21 points, 40-19, following a pair of free throws by Williams with 4:39 remaining in the third quarter. Vincent took a 31-point lead, 56-25, following Williams’ 3-pointer on the Yellow Jackets’ opening possession in the fourth quarter.

Hadder said he felt like his previous teams tried to step it up a notch in the region tournament in Vincent’s four previous trips to Jacksonville, including the Yellow Jackets’ 60-59 loss to Sand Rock in the AHSAA Class 2A Northeast Region tournament championship game a year ago. Hadder preached a different message to his players before Monday night’s game.

“I told them, ‘You don’t have to do more than what you’ve been doing,'” Hadder said. “‘Do what you’ve been doing.'”

Vincent will face Holy Family for a fourth time this season in the AHSAA Class 2A Northeast Region championship game. The Yellow Jackets own two-point, 14-point and 12-point victories against the Tornadoes this season.

Rogers said he expects another battle in the region tournament title game.

“We’ve got to go out and play hard,” Rogers said.
