Lions top Shelby County

The Briarwood Christian School baseball team defeated Shelby County 8-1 in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest March 16.

Carter Tyra led the Lions as he went 2-for-3 at the plate. Tyra drove in three runs and scored two runs in the win.

Daniel Robert finished 1-for-2 with a double and drove in a run. Brayden Housel finished 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run.

Ben Craft drove in one run. Cole Pearson scored two runs, while Ethan Simmons, Will Dyson and Sam Morris scored one run each.

Barnes Bankston earned the win on the mound after giving up just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk in six innings. Simmons struck out two batters in one inning in relief.

Evan McNeal led Shelby County at the plate as he went 1-for-2 with a solo homer.

Cody Jones finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Evan Nash went 1-for-1 at the plate.

McNeal took the loss after giving up six runs, including four earned runs, on one hit with six strikeouts and five walks in four innings. Dakota Falkner allowed two earned runs on three hits with two walks in two innings in relief.
