Rebels advance in opening series

Coosa Valley Academy senior Hunter Winslett provided a pair of game-winning hits to lift the Rebels to a 5-4 and 8-7 sweep of Abbeville Christian Academy in the opening round of the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A playoffs April 26.

The two-time defending AISA Class 1A champions took the first game 5-4 after Winslett drove in Michael Mims in the top of the seventh inning.

Mims led Coosa Valley offensively as he finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in one run in the victory.

Winslett finished with two hits and drove in two runs in the win.

Tyler Hickman, Garrett McMillan and Cody Wood added one hit each.

Hickman earned the win on the mound after giving up one run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Winslett again drove in Mims with a game-winning hit in the Rebels’ 8-7 win in the nightcap.

Mims led the Rebels offensively as he finished with three hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in two runs in the victory.

Winslett finished with three hits and drove in one run. Stephen Cryer finished with two hits and drove in one run.

Allen Logan added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs in the victory. Hickman finished with two hits and drove in one run. McMillan added one hit and drove in one run in the win.

Winslett earned the win on the mound after giving up one run on one hit in two innings in relief.
