Eagles fall to Oak Grove in title game

The Calera High School softball team fell to Oak Grove 14-5 in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A, Area 8 tournament championship game May 4.

Shelby Clark, Jocelyn Davis and Skyler Laird led the Eagles offensively as each finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Davis drove in one run.

Samantha Smith finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double. Shelby Wright went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run. Kymber McGiboney finished 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run. Anna Seabury finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Somer Roberson, who took the loss in the circle, struck out one batter in a complete game.

The Eagles defeated Tarrant 11-1 to reach the title game.

Davis led Calera offensively with a solo homer in the victory.

McGiboney added two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Katie Eiland finished with a double and drove in two runs.

Clark finished with two hits. Wright and Faith Graham added one hit each. Julia Grooms drove in two runs in the victory.

Eiland, who earned the win in the circle, finished with nine strikeouts in a complete game.
