Man arrested for dragging woman behind car

U.S. Marshals have arrested a Wilsonville man allegedly responsible for dragging a woman behind a vehicle.

On May 22, the Marshals located Kirt Bernard Benson, 41, in a hotel in Alexander City and took him into custody without incident, according to a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Law enforcement had been searching for Benson after obtaining two warrants for his arrest following the domestic violence incident on Alabama 25 in Wilsonville May 20.

The victim, who was seriously injured was transported to a local hospital. She has since been released, according to the release.

Benson has been charged with domestic violence in the second degree and violation of a protection from abuse order. He is currently in the Shelby County Jail on total bonds of $156,000.

The press release stated that investigators anticipate filing additional charges against Benson after reviewing the case.

Benson’s criminal history includes ten prior arrests for assault and domestic violence-related crimes, with numerous convictions.

The U.S. Marshals who made the arrest work with the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
