COUNCIL PLACE 3

Incumbent Robert Barnes is a state-licensed homebuilder and remodeler. He said he wants to improve Chelsea’s commercial look and find more businesses and restaurants. Barnes also said he wants to develop additional parks.

“Also, I want to continue to work toward separation of council and mayoral power to further enable the council to perform its lawful duties,” he said.

David Ingram, the director of administrative and fiscal affairs for the UAB Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital, is also running for council place 3.

Ingram is the treasurer for the Chelsea Youth Club and commissioner of Chelsea Youth Baseball. His top priorities include traffic solutions at Shelby County 47 and Shelby County 39, improved and expanded youth recreation facilities, annexation and commercial growth on U.S. 280.

COUNCIL PLACE 4

David Birdsong, a regional sales manager in pharmaceutical sales, ran for Chelsea mayor during the last municipal election.

“I will use my 16 years of leadership to ensure that the needs of everyone in Chelsea are met,” Birdsong said. “We have an awesome city and an incredible future ahead of us, and I want to help shape that future.”

Alison Moore Nichols, a school bus driver, has served the children of Chelsea Park Elementary, and now drives for Chelsea Middle School and Chelsea High School.

“(Mike) Denton has been over the roads for the last eight years, and I actually drive the roads,” she said. “I feel like I’m more informed about the condition of the roads.”

Incumbent Mike Denton said Chelsea needs to increase and improve facilities and services to support a growing population.

“The areas of public safety, business development, infrastructure maintenance and increasing recreation opportunities for all of our citizens are all areas that will demand attention in the next four years,” Denton said.
