HOOVER — After running unopposed, Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey and three City Council members were declared winners in their races for this year’s municipal election during the Hoover City Council meeting Aug. 6.

The council passed resolutions to declare Ivey the winner in the mayoral race, incumbent Gene Smith as the winner in the City Council Place 2 race, incumbent John T. Natter as the winner in the City Council Place 4 race and incumbent Jack Wright, council president, as the winner in the City Council Place 5 race.

While the four winners all received sustained applause, Ivey received a standing ovation from the dozens in attendance.

“I appreciate all the support from the council,” Ivey said.

The Hoover City Council also issued a proclamation declaring Aug. 11 as Babypalooza Day in the city of Hoover. Babypalooza is a baby and maternity expo scheduled for Aug. 11 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen.
