HOOVER — The Light the Night Walk kickoff event has been set for Aug. 23 in Hoover.

The free event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 100 Chase Park South, Suite 220.

Jennifer Sullivan with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society said the kickoff is an opportunity for the organization to share its goals.

“The kickoff will inspire, motivate and educate team captains and walkers about the mission of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and provide participants with the unique opportunities to learn strategies for fundraising success,” Sullivan said in an email.

There will also be a raffle for baskets donated by various sponsors. Each attendee will receive two raffle tickets to put towards any baskets he or she chooses, Sullivan said.

The event will include lunch and presentations, including a speech from a blood cancer survivor.

Sullivan said event organizers expect about 250 attendees.
