Montevallo women’s soccer opens season against Barry

The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team will open its 2012 season at home Friday, Aug. 31 against Barry College.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Varsity Field. Free food will be served to Montevallo students proving current student identification at 6:45 p.m.

The Falcons return four players who started more than 12 matches last season, including junior Christine Prince. Prince scored a team-high eight goals for the Falcons a year ago.

Senior Nicola Stolworthy and sophomores Camilla Alderin and Octavia Saunders are also returning starters.

Montevallo, picked ninth by conference coaches in the Peach Belt Conference preseason poll, is looking to return to the Peach Belt Conference tournament after a team including 19 underclassmen fell one win shy of an appearance in 2011.
