Falcons sweep final two matches in Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team defeated Coker College and Barton College in its final two matches in the Anderson Invitational on Sept. 8.

Montevallo defeated Barton College 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-10) in its final match in the Invitational, which improved the Falcons record to 6-3 overall.

“We need to work on being more consistent,” said Montevallo coach Katie O’Brien. “The players know what they need to do. The plan just needs to be executed. With more experience we will have more confidence.”

Manyi Ati led the Falcons with 10 kills in the victory over Barton College. Michelle Walker added nine kills, while Rebekah Phelps added eight kills. Katie Best and Brianna Guzinski contributed six kills each.

Kaleigh Harvey posted a team-high 15 digs. Jessica Falletta added 13 kills, while Guzinski contributed 12 digs. Betsy Stevenson finished with a team-high 25 assists in the win.

Montevallo topped Coker College 3-2 (18-25, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 15-8) in its opening match on the second day of the Invitational.

The Falcons will return to action Sept. 14 in a road match against Lincoln Memorial University at 6 p.m.
