Montevallo seventh after first round of Full Moon Invitational

CALERA – The University of Montevallo women’s golf team currently sits in seventh place in team standings following the first round of the Full Moon Invitational on Sept. 17 at Timberline Golf Club.

The Falcons collectively carded a score of 318 strokes in the opening round. Lander University leads the tournament after collectively posting a score of 297 strokes in the first round.

“Coming off of last weekend’s tournament, it’s great to turn around and play quickly,” said Montevallo coach Justin Pratt. “Our scores are just a couple of strokes better for every player after the first round. Hopefully, that trend will continue.”

Sophomore Ashlee Beck led Montevallo in the opening round with a 4-over par 75. Beck currently sits in a tie for third place in individual standings.

Freshman Morgan Natale carded a 8-over par 79 in the first round, while junior Hilary Shaner shot a 9-over par 80. Junior Kira Chaudhry posted a 13-over par 84. Senior Kayla Witt rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with her 16-over par 87 in the opening round.

The Falcons will close out the tournament’s final round Sept. 18 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
