Calera defeats Montevallo in Jemison finals

JEMISON – The Calera High School volleyball team went unbeaten to claim the Jemison tournament championship on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The Eagles defeated county-rival Montevallo and Oak Grove in pool play to advance to the championship bracket. Calera downed host Jemison in the first round of the playoffs, then beat Montevallo 25-13, 26-28, 15-13 in the championship game.

Montevallo overcame the pool play 25-14, 25-11 loss to Calera to make a run for the Jemison tounament title. The Lady Bulldogs downed Oak Grove 25-9, 25-15 in pool play, then defeated Central-Tuscaloosa 25-13, 16-25, 16-14 in the semifinals.

Montevallo’s Megan Draper totaled 22 kills and six aces to earn all-tournament honors. McKenna Anderson added 15 kills and 40 digs in the tournament to also make the all-tournament team.
