MONTEVALLO-Montevallo High School lost to West Blocton High School 32-18 on Sept. 28 at Montevallo.

Montevallo coach Andrew Zow said his team was not focused in practice this week and it showed in the game.

“It was just a lot of things we did not do to get prepared for a region game or a game period,” Zow said.

The Bulldogs were led by junior running back Quandarious Jackson with 108 yards on eight carries.  Jackson actually had 118 yards in the first half, but was held to negative yardage in the second. Senior quarterback Trevor Chatham was 10-of-19 passing for 155 yards and two touchdowns, but threw three interceptions.  Senior receiver Landon Goodwin had three receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Montevallo scored first marching 80 yards in four plays capped off by a Chatham 28-yard touchdown pass to Goodwin with 5:09 left in the opening quarter.  But West Blocton scored just over a  minute later.  On Montevallo’s next possession, West Blocton recovered a Montevallo fumbled caused by a bad snap and a few plays later, the Tigers scored again, taking a 13-6.  Montevallo answered the Tigers score with a 72-yard touchdown run by Jackson, on the final play of the first quarter.  The Bulldogs were unable to tie the game missing on the extra point, leaving the score at 13-12

The Tigers extended their lead with a 71-yard touchdown run eight seconds into the second quarter.  West Blocton scored off a blocked punt later in the quarter to take a 26-12 lead into the half.

The Bulldogs got as close as 26-18 when Chatham found Goodwin for a 69- yard touchdown pass on the Bulldogs opening drive of the second half. But it was the last scoring of the game for the Bulldogs.  West Blockton added another score midway through the fourth quarter.

“We have just got to do better all-around from the ball boy all the way up to me,” Zow said. “We got a long way, but we will get there.”
