Othar J. Denard, age 84, of Alabaster, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 29, 2012, after a battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mabel Creamer Denard; three sons, Randy, Terry (Anita) and Michael (Kelli); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Dunaway, Nita Clayton and Vetres Burns (Tony); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lillie Moxley Denard; brother, A. G. Denard; and sister, Martha Ella Denard.

Othar served his country as a U.S. Marine and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired school teacher that taught welding at the vocational school in Columbiana.

The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 1. Funeral service is Oct. 2 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage in Pelham with the Rev. Ken Strutt and the Rev. Tony Burns officiating.
