There’s a new show in the art gallery at Parnell Memorial Library. It’s the “looked forward to” Annual Montevallo Arts Council Members’ Exhibit.

This year’s show is especially exciting with a wide variety of creations by the talented artists.

The exhibit opened Oct. 1 and will close Nov. 30. A reception honoring all participating artists will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. following the annual Montevallo Arts Council meeting. The public is encouraged to attend.

Oil paintings are displayed by Chaille Raines of Alabaster, Dottie Moore of Calera and Debbie Sullivan and Robert Sutton of Montevallo. There are acrylic paintings by Laurie Binion of Montevallo and watercolors by John Wesley of Montevallo and Martha Fulghum of Alabaster.

The exhibited pottery is by Nita Terrell of Alabaster, and the sculptures by Tym Davis of Maylene. The exhibited creations of other Montevallo artists are Tim Tingle’s woodcarvings, Becky Cox-Rodgers’ gourd art and Sandy Swindall’s photographs.

In addition to these displays, there are in the gallery a number of sleek and modern benches designed and constructed by Ben Hayes. Many of the paintings and other creations are for sale.

Art enthusiasts are encouraged, as they enjoy viewing the exhibit, to take time to read the artists’ bios posted beneath each display. There are some charming tales of how some of these artists discovered and developed their talents.

The art gallery committee is made up of Sandy Swindall, Debbie Sullivan, John Wesley, and Suzanne Hurst.

The Parnell Memorial Art Gallery is sponsored by the Montevallo Arts Council. Listed among the Council’s upcoming events are the Montevallo Art Walks scheduled for Oct. 27, 4-8 p.m., and Nov. 15, 5-7 p.m.
