Shelby County Fair a great success

Dear Editor,

The 63rd Annual Shelby County Fair, concluded recently in Columbiana, was an outstanding success, thanks to the participation and support of many people in the area.

The members of the Kiwanis clubs of Columbiana and Chelsea and of the Shelby County High School Key Club who gave of their time and energy to prepare and conduct this year’s fair wish to express their deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make it possible, including the sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and, of course, the many thousands who attended.

It’s not too soon to be thinking about next year’s fair. We need the participation of everyone in the area to continue this great tradition. This is one of the few remaining truly old-fashioned county fairs still around, and everyone can participate either through volunteering or entering exhibits.

Some of the exhibit categories include farm and garden produce, sewing and quilting, photography, art, crafts, home canning and baked goods.  Of course there are ribbons and small cash awards in every category.

Proceeds from this year’s fair, as always, will go to help support many schools, libraries, scholarships, youth programs and organizations in the county. That is the motivating force behind those who worked so tirelessly, and gave so generously of their time, effort and energy.

Kiwanis clubs worldwide sponsor service projects each year to serve the children of the world. Men and women who would like to be a part of this exciting opportunity to serve are invited to visit a Kiwanis club meeting and consider becoming a member.
