Ethel Gordon, age 85, of Helena, passed away Oct. 13. She was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Boligee. She was married to Paul N. Gordon Jr.

Elaine was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very active in her church as she taught Sunday school and Bible studies for many years. She was an active member of the Church of Nazarene, Helena, and a previous member of Forestdale United Methodist Church, Forestdale. Elaine loved growing roses and sewing and provided a multitude of her talent to so many of her family and friends with roses, flower arrangements, clothing, smocking, cross-stitch and quilts. Elaine loved her family, friends and her community and would wish to glorify God with her death as she did in her life.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Chappell, and brothers, Adrian and Edwin Hitt. She is survived by her husband, Paul N. Gordon Jr.; daughters, Paula G. White (Robin), Juanita Tidwell (Gary) and Brenda H. Cork (Clyde); grandchildren, Chelseay W. Dennis, Jordan R. White, Juanita C. Sanderford (Scott), Bryan Cork (Tammy) and Chris Tidwell; great-grandchildren, Colby Cork, Adam Cork, Erica Cork, Baden Sanderford, Emma Elaine Sanderford and Brodie Taylor Dennis; and sister, Ruth Jernigan.

Funeral services will be held on Oct. 16 at Crestview Memorial Gardens, Adamsville. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Elaine’s name to the United Methodist Children’s Home, Ministry Headquarters, 3140 Zelda Court, Montgomery, AL 36106-2607.
