MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team posted its ninth shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over visiting Concordia College in a non-conference match Oct. 22 at Varsity Field.

The Falcons entered the contest ranked among the top defensive teams in NCAA Division II and didn’t do any harm to their reputation in the victory over the Hornets.

Montevallo junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway, who currently leads the Peach Belt Conference with a microscopic 0.54 goals against average, posted one save in his eighth shutout this season.

Senior Patrick Dean led the Falcons (10-3-2) with two goals in the victory. Sophomore Giuliano Frano contributed a team-high three assists.

Senior Stephen Beatty gave Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute following his goal off an assist from Frano. Dean scored his first goal of the match in the 24th minute off an assist from fellow senior Stefan Vaziri to push the Falcons’ lead to 2-0.

Junior Ryuhei Nose gave Montevallo a 3-0 lead early in the second half following his goal in the 46th minute of the contest off an assist from Dean. The Falcons took a 4-0 lead in the 49th minute following a goal by senior Shane Howard off an assist from Frano.

Dean scored his second goal of the match in the 68th minute off an assist from Frano to give Montevallo a 5-0 lead. Freshman Roussin Nkoy capped the scoring for the Falcons with his goal in the 78th minute off an assist from sophomore Kyle Stuller.

The Falcons return to action Oct. 27 with their final regular-season match against Peach Belt Conference newcomer Young Harris College. Montevallo will recognize its five seniors on the men’s soccer team before the match, which is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
