MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo Police Department will be getting new leadership, as former Chief Steve Holt was not reappointed during a Nov. 14 City Council meeting.

Holt was first appointed interim police chief when then-Chief Kevin Mark Peters was not reappointed four years ago. He was appointed police chief soon after, according to City Clerk Herman Lehman.

“He was not fired, but we did choose not to reappoint him. We want to take the department in a little bit of a different direction,” Mayor Pro Tempore Dee Woodham said.

The Council appointed Sgt. Jeremy Littleton as the interim police chief, Lehman said.

The city will soon post a job opening for police chief and begin the interview process for a permanent replacement.

“Mayor (Hollie) Cost and the City Council stated at the meeting that night that they appreciated Chief Holt’s dedicated service to the City of Montevallo,” Lehman wrote in an email.

During the same meeting, Lehman was reappointed as the city’s clerk and treasurer.
