Bruno Montessori hosting LEGO tournament Dec. 1

INDIAN SPRINGS — A local school will host a regional LEGO Robotics tournament this weekend.

The Joseph Bruno Montessori Academy will host the Central Alabama FIRST LEGO League Qualifier from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the school’s gym.

According to a school press release, 10 teams are expected to participate in the tournament.

The tournament will consist of fast-paced LEGO robot challenges. This year’s theme is “Senior Solutions,” which focuses on designs that serve senior citizens, according to the press release.

Teams will be judged on the robots’ functionality, teamwork and on a research project.

Entry to the tournament is free to the public, according to the press release.

The winning team will compete in the state championship, which will take place in Huntsville Jan. 12, 2013. After the state championship, teams from across the world will compete in the world championship, to be held in St. Louis, Mo. in April.
