PELHAM – The Briarwood Christian Lady Lions halted a late run by the Pelham Lady Panthers to win 38-30 at Pelham on Nov. 27.

Briarwood coach Jim Brown said his team was a little rusty coming off of a four day break and a shortened practice yesterday due to unforeseen circumstances, but he was proud of the effort they had in the game.

“We weren’t as efficient as we need to be-as we will be,” Brown said. “They played hard and real proud of them in that regard.”

Hannah Brown led the Lady Lions with 12 points and five rebounds while Samantha Swords added nine points and six rebounds.  The Lady Panthers were led by Emily Jackson with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.

The game started with Briarwood taking an early 6-2 lead, before Pelham rallied to tie the score at nine on the first offensive possession of the second quarter.   The Lions fought off the Pelham charge with a 9-4 run, taking an 18-13 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the teams’ swapped buckets as neither team could make a run. The teams split the scoring at eight points apiece in the period.

The fourth quarter started like the third quarter with both teams’ alternating buckets, but starting at the 5:09 mark Jackson scored four consecutive points over the next minute to get the Panthers within 28-27.   Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, Brown took over with five points in the final five minutes, helping the Lady Lions finish the game on an 11-3 run to claim the victory.
