Pedestrian struck on Alabama 25 dies

A pedestrian struck on Alabama 25 on Dec. 7 has died.

Columbiana resident Carolyn A. Dawson, 52, died at the scene of the accident, which happened between Columbiana and Calera in the Summerhill community.

The driver that hit Dawson is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Alabama 25 has been reopened to local traffic. Investigators will return to the scene of the accident on Dec. 8 to complete their work.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety is conducting the investigation with the help of the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at 669-4181, through the secret witness line at 669-9116 or through the website at by clicking on the “report criminal activity” link and choosing the “general information category.”
