Robert Lee “Rabbit” McCartney Sr.


Robert Lee “Rabbit” McCartney Sr., age 78, of Calera, passed away Dec. 5, 2012, in Talladega.

Rabbit coached little league, he loved Buxahatchee Country Club, and he was an avid golfer in his years making 13 holes-in-one. He was also an Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie; father, Frank; wife, Pat; six brothers; and one sister.

Rabbit is survived by his daughter, Tammy McCartney of Calera; sons, Robert “Lee” McCartney of Brierfield and Bobby Hanson of Dry Valley; sister, Jessie Matherson (Frank) of Alabaster; brothers, James McCartney of Pineville, La., and Manuel McCartney of Siluria; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held Dec. 10 from 11 a.m.-noon at Rockco Funeral Home Montevallo. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at Elliottsville Cemetery with Bro. Tom Hammett officiating.
