FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo Boys and Girls Club will be open through Dec. 21, providing a place for Montevallo Elementary School students during the day while MES is being cleaned.

“Camp Christmas” at the Boys and Girls Club is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to an email from Director Freda Shivers.

“We’ll be doing all the regular fun stuff, in addition to Secret Santa community service for the seniors next door and those receiving Meal-On-Wheels, watching Christmas movies, a couple of hours of Christmas Academy activities — educational stuff, but let’s keep that as our little secret — playing outdoor ‘reindeer games,’ along with a little drama, a little singing and, of course, looking for our elf, Dexter, each day,” Shivers wrote in the email.

The fee for current members is $8 per day. Afterschool parents get a $25 credit for their December payment. The fee is $10 per day for new members. New members will also have to pay the $25 annual registration fee. According to Shivers, the Boys and Girls Club can work out a payment plan for those who can’t handle this unexpected expense. Kids who come during the break will be considered current members when it comes to summer sign-up and will get to sign-up early.

The Boys and Girls Club meets at 420 Vine Street in Montevallo. For more information, call 665-4466.
