Lady Hornets run past Westminster

CALERA – The Chelsea Lady Hornets never trailed in a 51-14 win over the Westminster School at Oak Mountain Knights Dec. 15 at Calera High School in the first round of the Shelby County tournament.

Chelsea held Westminster scoreless in the first quarter on their way to a 16-0 lead. The Lady Hornets took a 19-0 lead in the second before the Knights scored their first points of the game with 4:40 left in the first half.

Chelsea scored 17 points in the second quarter to claim a 33-9 lead at the half.

The Lady Hornets added 14 points in the third, then held Westminster scoreless in the fourth to take the 51-14 victory.

Amanda Mock led all scorers with 22 points, including 10 in the first quarter. Brooklyn Smitherman added 10 points for Chelsea.

Hinton led Westminster with seven points.

Chelsea advances to the second round of the Shelby County tournament where they will take on Oak Mountain Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. at Oak Mountain High School. Westminster will face Vincent in a consolation game on Dec. 21 at a location to be determined.
