The South Shelby Chamber of Commerce had its email account hacked on the morning of Dec. 17.

Interim Director Bonnie Atchison said a spam email, supposedly from former SSC Executive Director Stacy Walkup, was sent to her entire address book at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 17. The email claimed Walkup had been robbed at gunpoint in the United Kingdom and asked for monetary donations to help her get home, Atchison said.

Atchison said the email is a hoax.

“Stacy’s fine. She’s not in Europe,” she said.

Atchison said she also lost all of the email addresses in her address book when she was hacked, so she has not been able to contact SSC members since the hoax email was sent.

She said she is working on the problem with her email provider, but she has not been able to recover the email addresses as of Monday afternoon.

Atchison asked SSC members to email her at Soshelby@bellsouth.net, so she can repopulate her address book.
