Three Shelby County boys’ basketball teams and one girls’ basketball team moved up in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll released Jan. 17.

Kingwood Christian, Thompson and Vincent each moved up one spot from last week’s boys’ poll while Coosa Valley cracked the top-10 in the AISA girls’ poll.

The Kingwood Christian Lions (17-1) took the No. 3 spot in the boys’ AISA poll after sitting at No. 4 last week. The Lions defeated No. 7 Tuscaloosa Academy on Tuesday and was scheduled to face No. 1 Lee-Scott (17-1) Jan. 17 at home. No makeup game against Lee-Scott will be scheduled.

The Thompson Warriors (22-2) are ranked No. 4 in this week’s poll after previously sitting at No. 5 in last week’s voting. The Warriors defeated county-rival Shelby County last week, who was then ranked No. 5 in Class 5A.

The Vincent Yellow Jackets (17-4) moved up to No. 5 this week. Vincent was No. 6 last week and is fresh off a victory over Fultondale that sealed up the regular season area championship.

The Shelby County Wildcats (19-5) dropped from No. 5 to No. 6 in this week’s poll after their loss to Thompson last Friday.

The Coosa Valley Lady Rebels (13-2) attracted votes after a stellar week in the girls’ AISA division. The Lady Rebels fresh off a 43-39 area victory over No. 8 Autauga Academy to move into the No. 7 spot in this week’s poll. Coosa Valley received votes last week, but not enough to be in the top-10.

The Calera Lady Eagles (12-4) continued to pick up nominations by voters in Class 4A.
