Evangel Christian led 28-20 with just over three minutes to play, but had to hang on at the end to survive a 28-26 non-conference win over Covenant Christian of Huntsville Jan. 18. With the win, the Lightning improved to 8-6 on the season.

The final outcome was not settled until a missed free throw by the Falcons after time had expired kept them from sending the game into overtime.

Anna Byers led the way for Evangel with 10 points and nine rebounds. Bethany Letson added nine points, and Lacey Entrekin also had seven points and nine rebounds.
