FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo Development Cooperative District has extended the deadline for those interested in operating a restaurant in the former Alabama Coach Company Building in downtown Montevallo.

The new deadline for a written statement of interest will be March 1.

The MDCD board, which is made of representatives from the city of Montevallo, Shelby County and the University of Montevallo, approved the addendum to the original Nov. 5 proposal during a Dec. 11 meeting.

“The board recognized that the timing of the original request for proposals created unnecessary difficulties because it required prospective restaurateurs to develop comprehensive proposals and business plans in a short timeframe between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays,” the addendum stated.

In addition to a later deadline, the MDCD board will now consider a possible lease or purchase option for the building.

“Although the preferred use of the site is a first class restaurant that offers quality food, beverages and services, the MDCD will also entertain proposals in lieu of a restaurant,” stated a release from Shelby County Planning Services Supervisor David Hunke. “Those alternative ventures, however, must meet the MDCD board’s objectives for the property.”

The complete document detailing the project can be found under the Department of Development Services link at Shelbyal.com; the University of Montevallo website, Montevallo.edu; and the city of Montevallo’s website, Cityofmontevallo.com.

Interested parties should submit, via mail, a written statement of interest no later than March 1 to David Hunke, Department of Development Services, 1123 County Services Drive, Pelham, Alabama 35124 or email dhunke@shelbyal.com.

After the statements of interest have been received, additional information will be requested prior to meeting individually with the MDCD board. Parties interested in a site visit of the property or having any questions regarding the proposal process should contact Hunke at 620-6651 or via e-mail at dhunke@shelbyal.com.
