Spain Park clinches area title

HOOVER – The Spain Park Lady Jags locked up the Class 6A, Area 8 regular season championship with a 52-28 victory over the Pelham Lady Panthers Jan. 25.

Spain Park (19-7) finished 6-0 in area play and will host the area tournament on Feb. 7.

The Lady Jags took an 8-3 lead after the first quarter and broke the game open in the second with a 10-3 run to take a 21-9 lead at the half.

Spain Park held Pelham (5-13, 2-4) to just four points in the third to take a 36-13 lead into the final quarter of play.

The Lady Panthers opened the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 17, but Spain Park answered with an 11-0 run to claim the 52-28 victory.

Victoria Baldwin led all scorers with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Spain Park. Kelsie Williams added nine points for the Lady Jags.

Erykah Hall led Pelham with seven points and Zarria Morgan added six points for the Lady Panthers. Bradleigh Smith led Pelham with 11 rebounds.
