Thomas leads Sylacauga past Briarwood

NORTH SHELBY – Sylacauga’s Shakayla Thomas led her team to a 52-32 win over the Briarwood Christian Lions Jan. 31.

After battling to a 10-10 score at the end of the first quarter, Thomas led Sylacauga on a 10-2 run to take a 20-12 lead midway through the second. The Aggies took a 24-15 lead at the half.

Thomas scored the first 10 points for Sylacauga in the third quarter to give them a 38-26 lead going into the fourth quarter. Sylacauga held Briarwood to a pair of 3-pointers to take the 52-32 win.

Thomas scored a game-high 28 points for Sylacauga.

Lindy Sumerford lead Briarwood with 10 points, seven of which came in the first quarter.
