The Alabaster Board of Education voted during its Feb. 28 meeting to enter into a contract with the School in Sites company to develop the upcoming school district’s website.

The website will allow the School Board to post meeting dates, job openings and other information related to the Alabaster school system, said Alabaster Interim School Superintendent Dr. Phillip Hammonds.

“I think they will come in and do a very good job,” Hammonds said, noting he would like the website to go live “as soon as possible.”

School in Sites created and currently hosts websites for several other school systems in Alabama, such as the Hoover Board of Education, the Mobile County Board of Education and Madison City Schools.

In other business, the School Board:

-Voted to enter into a contract with the Cornerstone Educational Consulting firm to study and provide feedback on the Alabaster school transportation system.

Cornerstone will study the school’s bus routes, radio communication systems, gather feedback from bus drivers and the Shelby County School System transportation department.

-Voted to enter into a contract with the Pelham-based U.S. Teks company to provide an assessment on what it would take to move electronic data from Alabaster City Hall to the Alabaster school system’s central office.

U.S. Teks currently works with the city of Alabaster to help manage its electronic data, Hammonds said.

-Approved job descriptions for a central office payroll accountant and a central office accounts payable accountant.
