Briarwood, Pelham split doubleheader

The Briarwood Christian Lions and Pelham Panthers each picked wins in a doubleheader March 2 at Pelham.

Sam Finnerty pitched the Panthers to a 1-0 game one victory over the Lions. Finnerty held the Briarwood offense to just one hit while striking out nine. Briarwood’s Tanner Cunningham allowed one run on one hit with eight strikeouts in the Lions’ loss.

Hunter Stovall (1-for-3) had the only hit of the first game while Fletcher Johnson scored the game’s only run.

Pelham took an early lead in game two, but Briarwood struck for three runs in the sixth and seven innings to claim a 6-1 victory in the second game.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead on a RBI single by Colby Booth in the second inning. The lead stood until Briarwood came alive in the final two innings.

Brayden Housel led Briarwood batting 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Will Dyson added a 1-for-3 effort with a triple and two RBIs. Cunningham and Ethan Simmons each added doubles for the Lions.
