Thompson splits doubleheader at Tuscaloosa County

The Thompson Warriors split a two-game set at Tuscaloosa County March 6.

The Warriors (12-3) began the doubleheader with a 7-0 victory led by a pitching gem by Jake Walters. Walters pitched a 1-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and three walks in a complete game effort.

Drew Avans led Thompson with a pair of doubles and three RBIs to finish the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Trey Matherson added a 1-for-4 effort with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Tuscaloosa County erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 victory in game two.

Blake Grill and Heath Haskins each hit a double for Thompson to finish 1-for-3. Avans had the only RBI for the Warriors in game two.

Avans took the loss for Thompson pitching four and a third innings and allowing three runs on three hits.
