Thompson splits doubleheader with Hoover

The Thompson Warriors held on to an early lead to claim a 4-3 win in game two of a doubleheader against the Hoover Bucs March 8.

The Warriors (15-4) scored four runs in the third and held off a late Buccaneer rally in the seventh for the win.

Heath Haskins batted 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Warriors. Blake Grill added a 2-for-3 effort with a RBI and a run. Jackson Cofer pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs on three this with five strikeouts for the win. Peyton Johnson picked up a save for Thompson.

Hoover scored a run in the second and another in the third to claim a 2-0 win over the Thompson in game one.

Thompson’s Hunter Rigney pitched a complete game for the Warriors and allowed two runs on four this with a strikeout and a walk.

Haskins led the Warriors batting 2-for-3 while Drew Avans added a 1-for-3 effort with a double.
