Falcons fifth after opening round at West Georgia Invitational

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s golf team is currently fifth in team standings after the opening round of the University of West Georgia Invitational tournament March 11 at the Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton, Ga.

The Falcons carded a team score of 348 strokes in the first round and sit 22 strokes behind tournament leader UNC Pembroke.

Junior Hilary Shaner led the Falcons with a 12-over par 84 in the opening round, which places her in a tie for 11th overall in individual standings.

Sophomore Ashlee Beck is tied for 17th overall in individual standings after carding a 14-over par 86 in the opening round. JuniorKira Chaudhry shot a 16-over par 88 in the opening round, which places her in a tie for 22nd overall in individual standings.

Freshman Morgan Natale, who shot a 18-over par 90 in the first round, is 28th overall in individual standings after the opening round. Senior Kayla Witt rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with her score of 21-over par 93, which places her in a tie for 30th overall in individual standings.

The Falcons return to action Tuesday, March 12 in the final round of the tournament at Sunset Hills Country Club.
