NORTH SHELBY — Oak Mountain senior midfielder Mills Sproull signed a soccer scholarship to play for the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Sproull went to a USC Upstate identification camp and was offered by the school.

“It’s exciting,” Sproull said on signing with USC Upstate. “I really wanted to play Division I soccer. It’s going to be interesting meeting new people and going to school somewhere I don’t know many people.”

Sproull said that he expects to get playing time as a freshman at USC Upstate, which was one of the key points in his decision.

The Oak Mountain senior is a four-star recruit by Top Draw — a soccer recruiting service — and is ranked the No. 6 recruit in the south. Sproull has won a state title as a sophomore with the Eagles along with three club titles with three different teams.
