Falcons drop conference match against Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to Clayton State University 8-1 in a Peach Belt Conference match March 29.

Clayton State entered the match ranked No. 32 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II women’s tennis rankings.

Junior Haley Highfield recorded the lone win in a singles’ match for the Falcons (8-9 overall, 3-7 in Peach Belt Conference) by forfeit after Ivana Krommelova of Clayton State retired with a 3-0 deficit in the opening set in the No. 2 singles’ match.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova fell to Hannah Keeling of Clayton State 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles’ match. Freshman Allison Howell fell to Martina Dedaj of Clayton State 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Sophomore Anais Robert fell to Zinnia Leamana of Clayton State 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 in the No. 4 singles’ match. Freshman Juanita Ossa fell to Raluca Pavel of Clayton State 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles’ match.

Senior Lauren Blair fell to Charlotte Fabricius of Clayton State 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert fell to Keeling and Krommelova 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Howell and Highfield to Pavel and Leamana 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Ossa and Blair fell to Fabricius and Dedaj 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 30 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at Armstrong Atlantic State University. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
