Falcons ranked No. 27 in latest College Baseball Lineup poll

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo baseball team is ranked No. 27 in the latest College Baseball Lineup NCAA Division II baseball poll, which was released April 14.

The Falcons (26-15 overall, 13-11 in Peach Belt Conference) dropped 10 spots in the national poll following a three-game sweep on the road at Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference series over the weekend. The sweep marked the first time Montevallo has dropped all three games in a conference series this season.

Montevallo began the week with a 9-4 win over visiting Miles College at Kermit A. Johnson Field on April 9.

The Falcons are among four Peach Belt Conference teams that continue to be ranked among the top 30 teams nationally in the poll.

USC Aiken, which jumped three spots to No. 3 in the latest poll after sweeping Lander University in a conference series over the weekend. The Bearcats dropped seven spots to No. 12 in the most recent poll after dropping three games against the Pacers.

UNC Pembroke moved up four spots to No. 10 in the national poll.

The Falcons own a 7-7 record against teams ranked in the top 30 in the most recent poll. The Falcons clinched two-of-three games in a pair of conference series against UNC Pembroke and USC Aiken. Montevallo took one game in a series against Lander.

Montevallo swept a home-and-away series with UAH, which dropped five spots to No. 10 in the latest poll. The Falcons were swept by top-ranked Delta State University in a non-conference series in early February.

The Falcons will try to complete a season sweep in a three-game set against the University of North Alabama this week. Montevallo, which defeated the Lions 10-5 at home Feb. 20 and 6-5 on the road March 20, will travel to Florence, Ala. to face UNA in the final game of the season series Wednesday, April 17.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The Falcons will return to Peach Belt Conference action with a three-game series on the road at the University of North Georgia this weekend.

First pitch in the series opener is set for Friday, April 19 at 6 p.m. CST. The two teams will wrap up the conference series with a doubleheader Saturday, April 20, with first pitch in the opening game set for noon CST.
