Kingwood, Coosa Valley receive first round byes in AISA softball playoffs

The Kingwood Christian Lions and Coosa Valley Academy Rebels softball teams will have a few extra days to prepare for the AISA state softball regional tournament after each received first round byes in the first round of the playoffs.

The Coosa Valley Rebels await the winner of the Northside/East Memorial series winner in the Class AA region tournament to determine seeding in the state tournament scheduled May 3-4 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Kingwood Christian – ranked No. 2 in the AISA by the Alabama Sports Writers Association – received the bye by winning its area with a 4-0 record along with a 9-0 record in region play. The Lions (25-5) will await the winner of the Monroe/Bessemer series and will begin play at the Class 3A, Region 2 tournament April 25 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. The first game is scheduled for noon.

The Cornerstone Christian Chargers will have to play their way into the region tournament. Cornerstone will host Abbeville in a best-of-three series beginning April 22 at 10 a.m. Cornerstone is ranked No. 10 by the ASWA in the composite AISA poll.
