Montevallo ranked No. 23 in D2BaseballNews.com national poll

MONTEVALLO – Following a one-week absence, the University of Montevallo baseball team is once again ranked in the D2BaseballNews.com NCAA Division II poll after clinching a Peach Belt Conference series against the University of North Georgia over the weekend.

The Falcons (29-16 overall, 15-12 in Peach Belt Conference) are ranked No. 23 in the most recent poll, which was released April 21.

Montevallo also moved up one spot to No. 5 in the D2BaseballNews.com NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll.

The Falcons are one of three Peach Belt Conference schools ranked in the top 25 in the latest poll.

USC Aiken moved up two spots to No. 4 in the most recent poll. Montevallo took two-of-three games against the Pacers, who are ranked No. 2 in the Southeast Region poll, in a conference series in late March.

Lander University moved up one spot to No. 13 in the latest poll. The Falcons took one-of-three games against the Bearcats, who are ranked No. 3 in the Southeast Region poll, in a conference series last month.

UNC Pembroke dropped out of the top 25 in the most recent poll after being ranked for the majority of the season. The Braves are ranked No. 7 in the latest Southeast Region poll.

The Falcons own a 5-6 mark against teams ranked in the top 25 in the latest poll. Montevallo swept a home-and-away series against UAH, which moved up one spot to No. 12 in the most recent poll, and dropped a hard-fought three-game series on the road at top-ranked Delta State University in early February.

Two additional Peach Belt Conference schools are ranked in the website’s NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings.

Armstrong Atlantic State University is ranked No. 4 in the region poll. Georgia College, which hosts the Falcons in their final conference series of the season April 27-28, is ranked No. 9 in the region poll.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, April 24 as they host the University of West Alabama in their final mid-week game of the season at Kermit A. Johnson Field. Montevallo, which is undefeated (12-0) in mid-week games this season, is looking to cap off a season sweep of the Tigers after defeating West Alabama 2-1 on the road earlier this month.

The Falcons will honor a four-man senior class, including Andrew HillAustin DubberlyMichael Shreves andDevon Davis, before the game. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
