The Alabama Department of Transportation is planning lane closures on several sections of highway in Shelby County over the next week, and is making preparations to open the northbound onramp at Calera’s exit 228.

From 7 p.m. on Friday, June 14 through noon on Saturday, June 15, the inside northbound lane of Interstate 65 will be closed from milepost 227 to milepost 229 “to perform construction operations necessary to shift traffic onto the newly constructed bridge and re-open the I-65 northbound onramp (exit 228),” according to an ALDOT road advisory posted on June 14.

The exit 228 northbound onramp is scheduled to re-open to traffic on June 17 after being closed for eight weeks.

Beginning on Monday, June 17, ALDOT will close portions of Interstate 65 throughout Shelby County to perform guardrail repairs. The guardrail work will last from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. through the night of Thursday, June 20.

“This work will require a single lane closure, which may cause delays in the area of the work,” read a road advisory.

Beginning on Sunday, June 16, ALDOT will close portions of Alabama 119 between Montevallo and Alabaster.

The lane closures will begin at 6 a.m. on June 16, and will continue “at various times.” The closures will continue each night through the night of Thursday, June 20.
