Spain Park golfer wins AJGA tourney

Spain Park golfer Patrick Martin carded a final-round 70 to win the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior. Martin, who won the event with a 3-under-par 207, won the Boys Division by one strokes.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior was a 54-hole stroke play competition played at the par-70 Bellefonte Country Club. The event featured 108 boys and 36 girls, ages 12-18, from 23 states. The Boys Division is playing the course at 6,009 yards while the Girls Division is played the course at 5,564 yards.

Martin lead wire-to-wire opening with an eagle on No. 1 and never looked back.

“I wasn’t nervous today, but Nos. 9-13 were stressful,” he wrote in a . “Once I birdied No.14 the nerves were gone and I was ready to finish up.”

He was playing in his first AJGA open even. “(The win) means a lot,” he wrote in a release. (It) makes it easy to qualify and gives me confidence, this lets me know I can compete.”
