County volleyball roundup for Sept. 26

The following is a list of scores from volleyball programs throughout Shelby County for Sept. 26:

Calera knocks off Spain Park

It took five sets to settle the battle between the Spain Park Jaguars and Calera Eagles, but in the end, 4A Calera upset 6A Spain Park in five sets at home.

Spain Park took the first set 25-22, with Calera answering by taking the second set 25-18. Spain Park answered back by winning the third set by a score of 25-22. Calera, facing elimination, came back to capture the fourth set, 25-20.

In the final set, Calera sealed the match victory with a 15-9 win.

Akia Harris had 26 kills, two aces, two blocks and 22 digs, Keyanna Gayden had 11 kills, three aces and five blocks, Aubrie Smith posted seven kills, two blocks and 11 digs and Hannah Marling had 20 digs for Calera.

Morgan Scott had 14 kills and 10 digs, Jordan Nakayama had five kills, two aces and 20 assists and Madison Bearden had eight kills and three blocks for Spain Park.

 

Briarwood falls short to John Carroll

The Briarwood Christian Lions hosted the John Carroll Cavaliers Sept. 26, falling in three sets.

The final score in each set was 25-17, 25-19 and 20-25, respectively. Rachel Nix had six kills, Madison Chambers had five kills and an ace and Hope Donohue had 22 digs, an ace and a kill for BCS.

With the loss, Briarwood falls to 15-7 overall and 2-2 in area play.

 

Pelham falters against Mountain Brook

Pelham’s hot streak of four straight match wins ended against Mountain Brook, as the Panthers fell in three sets to the Spartans.

Pelham came close in the first set, dropping it 22-25, but that was as close as it came, surrendering the next two, 17-25 and 18-25, respectively.

Autumn Hiett had six kills and nine digs, Hayley Brisendine had 11 digs and four aces and Emily Jackson had 26 assists for the Panthers.

 

Thompson crushes Hewitt-Trussville

Thompson returned to winning form, as the Warriors swept the Huskies, 3-0.

The Warriors won each set by a substantial margin, posting set wins of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-14 respectively.

Kelsea Bivins posted 13 kills, three blocks and four digs, Taylin McCarver had five kills and three blocks and Tara Miller had 25 assists and three aces for THS.
