Shelby County Arts Council to host Welcome to Mitford auditions

COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Arts Council is hosting auditions for its upcoming performance of Welcome to Mitford Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at its performance space in Columbiana. Auditions will involve readings from the script as well as theater games and improvisations.

Parts are available for pre-teens, youth and adults, as well as behind-the-scenes roles for those interested in lights, sound, props, costumes, sets and stage management, according to a Shelby County Arts Council press release. There is one major role for a pre-teen between the ages of 11 and 12. No singing or dancing is required.

Show dates are Jan. 24-26 at the Shelby County Arts Council’s performance space, with rehearsals beginning in late November and going through January. Rehearsals will mainly be in the evenings with some on weekends as needed. No rehearsals will be held the week of Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Welcome to Mitford will be directed by Sue Ellen Gerrells, who has worked in theater for more than 45 years and on three continents. Gerrells has worked on more than 125 projects and is the current artistic director of South City Theatre and vice president of public relations for the American Association of Community Theatre.
