George Gwin Ison


George Gwin Ison, age 85, of Shelby, passed away on Oct. 17, 2013.

George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by his parents, George Washington and Josie Welch Ison; son, Frank Ison; stepson, Steve Payton; and brothers, John Roach and Willard Ison. His survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Janie Mae Ison; daughter, Gail Ison Head (James); son, Johnny Ison (Cindy); stepdaughter, Jackie Glass; stepson, Tommy Payton; sisters, Jacquelin Prather and Joerine Hayes (Phil); brother, Gene Ison (Betty); 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Charter Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at Charter Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Oct. 21 with a committal service with honors following at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo. Brother Roger Hamaker officiating.
